Video Appearance

Video Conference Information

Merced Superior Court is now able to hold Court hearings by video conference. Such service is only available by approval of the Court and with advance notice. When cases are set on calendar by video conference they must be specially set by the Judge hearing the matter. Hearings by video arraignment are available in Courtrooms 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,11,12 and 13.

Fees and Notice

As per Government Code section 70630 the clerk of the court shall charge a reasonable fee to cover the costs of permitting parties to appear by video conferencing. The Merced Superior court fee for video conferencing is $200.00 per hour, with a one hour minimum. Merced Superior Court further requires a $100.00 non-refundable deposit to be paid at least five (5) days prior to the court hearing. This deposit will be applied to the first hour of the video conference.

Contact Information/ Noticing Requirements

When calendaring a video conference hearing, the requesting party must notice all parties of the intent to appear by video conference. A request to appear by video conference must be made in writing and must be filed within the division the case is held at least ten (10) days prior to the hearing.

Deposit Information

A $100.00 non-refundable deposit must be paid to the Merced County Superior Court no later than five (5) days prior to the hearing. This deposit is payable to the division in which the case is being heard.

Technology Requirements

The Merced Superior Court Video Conferencing is using a SIP(Session Initiation protocol) over the Internet or TCP/IP system. The Parties requesting to connect to the Courtroom Video Conferencing will have to provide a valid SIP address or URI(Uniform Resource Identifier) address. The Court IT division will require at least 2 business days before the scheduled hearing and the Parties have to provide their IT contact to schedule a connection test.

How to Request Video Appearance

  1. Please read Local Rules 2.2 - Request to Appear by Video Conference.
  2. Fill out the Notice to Appear by Video Conference & the Video Conference Information Technology Request Form.
  3. Submit both forms to the court.


Merced Superior Court will not be responsible for any case that is removed from calendar or continued due to non-compliance with the above procedures set herein. All deposits must be paid and any test runs must be conducted in order for the hearing to take place.
